As the holy month of Ramzan unfolds, the streets of Visakhapatnam come alive with the aroma of haleem simmering in large cauldrons. This hearty dish is a rich blend of meat, lentils, wheat, and aromatic spices, pounded to a creamy consistency. Across the city, haleem lovers are flocking popular food joints that serve this evening delicacy, each bringing its unique touch to the preparation. From classic mutton haleem to chicken variations, here’s where you can relish the best haleem in Visakhapatnam this season.

    Hotel Daspalla

At Hotel Daspalla, haleem takes on a luxurious, creamy texture, striking the perfect balance between smoothness and body. Hand-pound with precision, it avoids the pasty consistency that sometimes overshadows the dish’s depth of flavours. The slow-cooked mutton blends seamlessly with ghee and spices, making every bite rich yet light on the palate. You can order the hotel’s whole wheat parathas to savour the richness of the haleem. Mutton haleem is the only option available here, priced at ₹400 for 200 grams.

By evening, Lazeez Pista Haleem Point at Daba Gardens transforms into a buzzing hub, with cars and two-wheelers lined up as customers eagerly wait for their orders. Unlike other places, this spot offers multiple choices, with both chicken and mutton haleem. Their combos, which include a soft drink, make for a fulfilling Iftar — chicken haleem plus soft drink is priced at ₹170, while mutton haleem plus soft drink comes at ₹200. The haleem is flavourful and thick, with just the right amount of spice to compliment the meat’s tenderness. Some of the other Iftar specials include mutton paya and tandoori roti.

One of the earliest haleem destinations in Vizag, Dil Se Hyderabadi Haleem, has been a go-to spot for years. Tucked away in a lane near the bustling Jagadamba Junction, this place specialises in traditional mutton and chicken haleem. What sets their haleem apart is its mildly spicy yet deeply aromatic flavour, a result of slow cooking and continuous stirring that gives it a velvety-smooth consistency. The texture strikes a fine balance— not too coarse, not too soft — ensuring that the meat fibres are well-integrated while still retaining some bite. Served in two portion sizes, it’s a perfect choice for both light and hearty appetites. To end on a sweet note, their kaddu ka kheer, a bottle gourd-based dessert, is a must-try for those looking to complete their meal with something traditional.

Nawabi Haleem, Mecca Masjid (Jagdamba Junction)

Considered the oldest haleem joint in Visakhapatnam, Nawabi Haleem is a humble kiosk near Mecca Masjid at Jagadamba Junction that has been serving this delicacy since 2004. Despite its small setup, the place has a dedicated following, with loyal customers returning every year for its traditional preparation.

    Paradise, VIP Road

Like every year, Paradise at VIP Road is dishing out haleem in convenient takeaway boxes, making it an easy choice for those who want to enjoy the dish in the comfort of their homes. Known for its consistency in flavour, the haleem here is well-balanced, with the right blend of spices and texture that pairs well with its signature garnish of fried onions and cashews. The haleem in Paradise is available during day time as well.

Located on the busy Jagadamba road, Zeeshan Haleem has been drawing good numbers of food lovers this season. With its mutton and chicken haleem, the place is becoming a go-to destination for those looking for a fulfilling iftar. The thick consistency and balanced spice levels make it a comforting dish that keeps customers coming back for more.
