NEW DELHI: An illegally constructed mazar on government land at Doon Hospital in Dehradun was demolished late at night following a complaint filed on the chief minister’s helpline portal.
The complaint, submitted by Rishikesh resident Pankaj Gupta, alleged that an unauthorized religious structure had come up within the hospital premises. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Dehradun District Magistrate ordered a detailed inquiry.
Officials reviewed land records and documents from multiple departments — including the Revenue Department, Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), and the hospital administration — to determine the ownership of the land, whether due permissions had been obtained, and the overall legality of the structure.
A report was sought from the hospital authorities, and a notice was served to the mazar’s Khadim (caretaker) during the course of the inquiry.
Allegations also surfaced that the mazar was being misused for commercial purposes.
Earlier, the hospital administration had flagged the matter to the government, citing the structure’s interference with hospital operations. Acting on the complaint, the authorities sealed off the road leading to the hospital and deployed police personnel before carrying out the demolition.
A joint team comprising officials from the Municipal Corporation, PWD, Doon Hospital, and the district administration undertook the demolition with the help of a bulldozer. Officials confirmed that the action followed all legal procedures and the area has since been cleared.
