A man who was extradited to Northern Ireland as part of an investigation into the activities of violent dissident republicans has been remanded in custody
Sean Walsh, 58, of Belmont Park in Ballinlough Douglas, County Cork, is charged with a number of terror related offences including membership of a proscribed organisation; the IRA and the preparation of a terrorist act.
The offences are alleged to have happened in July 2020.
He had been extradited from the Republic of Ireland as part of Operation Arbacia and appeared before Omagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Operation Arbacia is a major undercover surveillance operation carried out by MI5 and the police.
An officer from the PSNI’s Serious Crimes Unit told the court that they could connect the defendant to the charges.
A prosecuting lawyer said Mr Walsh has fought extradition from the outset and has now exhausted all avenues of appeal.
District Judge Peter Magill remanded Mr Walsh in custody ahead of an application for bail on Wednesday at Dungannon Magistrates Court.
