    Joe Root becomes fifth batter to 13,000 Test runs and quickest to get there
    Joe Root etched his name in cricket history during the ongoing Test against Zimbabwe, becoming the fastest to reach 13,000 Test runs in his 153rd match, surpassing Jacques Kallis’ record. While Root leads in matches taken, he’s the slowest in terms of innings. He stands as the first English and fifth overall player to achieve this milestone.

    Joe Rootachieved a historic milestone by becoming the fastest cricketer to reach 13,000 Test runs during England’s four-day Test match against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Thursday.Playing in his 153rd Test match, Root surpassed Jacques Kallis’ record of reaching the mark in 159 matches.Root needed 28 runs to reach the milestone and accomplished it with a single off Victor Nyauchi in the 80th over of England’s first innings. However, in terms of innings taken, Root is the slowest among them, requiring 279 innings compared to Tendulkar’s 266.Since his Test debut against India in Nagpur on December 13, 2012, Root has established himself as one of cricket’s premier batter. He has particularly excelled against Australia and India, scoring over 2,000 runs against each team.Root’s consistent performance extends across multiple opposition teams. He has accumulated more than 1,000 Test runs against New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. His highest score of 262 came against Pakistan.

    As the leading run-scorer in World Test Championship history, Root’s form will be crucial for England in their upcoming five-match home series against India, scheduled to begin on June 20 in Leeds. During this series, he has the opportunity to become the second-highest run-getter in Test cricket.Root has demonstrated remarkable consistency across different opponents, with particularly impressive averages against Sri Lanka (62.54), India (58.08), and West Indies (56.03). His record includes notable performances against all major cricket nations, with multiple centuries against most opponents.Looking ahead, Root also has the chance to become the first player to score 7,000 runs in the World Test Championship during the upcoming India series.
