A man has been charged after a police officer was dragged along a road by a moving car in County Tyrone.
The officer was left with multiple fractures to his foot, as well as cuts and bruises and is expected to be unable to work for some time following the incident in Beltany Road in Omagh on Sunday night.
A 24-year-old man has been charged with offences, including driving with excess alcohol and causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving.
He is due to appear before Omagh Magistrates’ Court on 8 July.
The 24-year-old is also charged with assaulting a police officer and failing to stop for police.
On Monday Ch Insp Graham Dodds said the officer had been involved in a “very dangerous situation” which could have had “a much, much more dire outcome”.
He said the driver had been stopped because police believed he may have been under the influence of alcohol.
When told a preliminary breath test would be carried out, police said the driver had taken off at speed, dragging the officer along the road for several metres.
Police had also on Monday appealed for a member of the public who stopped to help the officer to come forward.
