IND vs ENG: Jamie Smith breaks all-time England record

NEW DELHI: Jamie Smith etched his name into the record books with a sensational performance at Edgbaston, becoming the highest-scoring wicketkeeper in England’s Test history. The 24-year-old remained unbeaten on 184 against India, surpassing the long-standing record of 173 set by Alec Stewart against New Zealand in Auckland in 1997.Walking in at a crisis moment with England struggling at 84/5, Jamie Smith stood tall and played one of the finest innings of his Test career — a knock that was nothing short of a rescue act for England. He partnered with Harry Brook and stitched 303-run partnership .Smith’s 184* eclipsed other legendary performances by England wicketkeepers, including Jonny Bairstow’s 167 against Sri Lanka in 2016*, Jos Buttler’s 152 vs Pakistan in 2020, and another Bairstow effort of 150 against South Africa*.Highest Test scores by England wicketkeepers:

    • 184* – Jamie Smith vs IND, 2025*
    • 173 – Alec Stewart vs NZ, 1997
    • 167* – Jonny Bairstow vs SL, 2016
    • 164 – Alec Stewart vs SA, 1998
    • 152 – Jos Buttler vs PAK, 2020
    • 150* – Jonny Bairstow vs SA, 2016

India piled up a massive 587 in their first innings before bowling England out for 407, securing a commanding 180-run lead.Mohammed Siraj was the standout performer with the ball, returning impressive figures of 6 for 70.
