Virat Kohli’s nephew Aryaveer Kohli, son of his elder brother Vikas, is making his way into cricket as a leg spinner under the guidance of Delhi coach and former India cricketer Sarandeep Singh. The young cricketer is set to feature in the second season of the Delhi Premier League after being bought by South Delhi Superstarz, marking his entry into competitive cricket without the pressure of his famous surname.Aryaveer’s coach Sarandeep Singh has expressed confidence in the young player’s abilities and approach to the game. “Aryaveer Kohli is a rising star. He’s quite young,” Sarandeep told PTI. “There’s no baggage of the surname on the young lad. He’s a really good and talented kid. He’s been practising and putting in the hard work.”
Unlike his uncle Virat Kohli, who made his mark as a batting superstar, Aryaveer has chosen to pursue leg spin bowling as his specialty. He has been training diligently in the nets to develop his skills in this specialised form of bowling.The Delhi Premier League, where Aryaveer will showcase his talents, has already proven to be a launching pad for emerging cricketers. Notable players like Digvesh Rathi and Priyansh Arya secured Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts with Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings, respectively, after their performances in the tournament’s first season.At the recent DPL auction, Aryaveer was picked up by South Delhi Superstarz. He will share the team with Digvesh Rathi, who commands one of the highest salaries in the league at Rs 38 lakh.Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who has retired from T20 Internationals and Test cricket, continues to be available for One Day Internationals (ODIs). Currently in London with his family, his return to international cricket has been affected by the postponement of the Bangladesh tour, which was scheduled for August but has been pushed back by 12 months.There might be a possibility of seeing Kohli back in action sooner than expected. Sri Lanka Cricket has reportedly approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to arrange a short white-ball series in August. If this proposal is accepted by the BCCI, it could mark Kohli’s return to international cricket since his last appearance in the ICC Champions Trophy final.
