AHMEDABAD: A 15-year-old Class 10 student of Som Lalit School in Navrangpura, who jumped from the fourth floor of the school building on Thursday, succumbed to her injuries late at night while undergoing treatment. The incident, captured in school CCTV footage, showed the girl walking into the lobby, twirling a keychain, and suddenly leaping over the railing.According to police, the girl jumped at 12.27pm from the school’s fourth-floor balcony. Her friend reportedly tried to stop her but failed. She sustained severe injuries to her head, hand, and leg and was rushed to a private hospital in Navrangpura, where she was admitted to the ICU. There was a plan to shift her to another hospital later, but she died around 10pm. Inspector A A Desai of Navrangpura police said that a case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is underway. The deceased girl lived in Naranpura with her parents and siblings. Her father runs an optician’s shop on Gandhi Road. Police said the family had gone to their native place in Rajasthan and would be questioned after their return.Preliminary information revealed that the girl had returned to school just 15 days ago after a month-long medical leave. Her parents had submitted a medical certificate before she rejoined. School principal Leena Arora informed police that the girl appeared disturbed that morning and started shouting in class, after which a teacher calmed her down.The city DEO has sought a detailed report from the school. An FSL team reached the school soon after the incident for an on-site forensic examination. A postmortem was conducted and the report is awaited.Navrangpura police began recording statements of teachers and family members to determine the reason behind the suicide attempt. Sources said the girl remained absent from school for an extended period before the incident, and this aspect is also under inquiry.
