ProvidedPart of a former Victorian church has collapsed on to a street in a West Yorkshire town.
Police and the fire service were called to reports of a building collapse on Bradford Road in Cleckheaton at about 10:00 BST. No one was injured, a police spokesperson said.
Images shared on social media showed large blocks of broken stone strewn on the pavement at the bottom of the steps outside The Monal wedding venue, with parts of the facade missing.
In a statement, The Monal said there had been a “minor incident” at the Grade II* listed hall, adding: “The most important news is that everyone is completely safe.”
It added: “Our team is assessing everything to ensure the space remains safe, secure and welcoming for everyone.
“We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”
Bradford Road remained closed on Saturday afternoon, with police confirming Kirklees Highways was managing the road closure.
Elisha JadeThe grand stone building was formerly home to Aakash, believed to be one of Britain’s biggest Indian restaurants.
According to Historic England, the building was originally constructed as a United Reformed Church, by Lockwood and Mawson of Bradford, between 1857 and 1859.
The two-storey former Providence Place church was first listed in 1982.
The Monal said its team was “actively working to resolve the situation” and restore full operations.
“We look forward to welcoming you all back very soon, insha’Allah [God willing],” it added.
