Emergency services were called to the fire in North Hykeham on Friday

A woman in her 80s has died following a house fire in North Hykeham.

Lincolnshire Police were called to a report of a fire at a property on Hedben Moor Way at 16:51 BST on Friday.

Police said emergency services extinguished the fire and rescued a woman from inside the house, but she died a short while later.

Officers said the cause of the fire was unknown and a scene guard remained in place on Saturday while specialist fire investigators were at work.

Hedben Moor Way, Hykeham Road, Moor Lane and Mill Lane were closed on Friday and police thanked residents for their patience while emergency services worked at the scene.

The force said the woman’s family had been informed.
