Aircross X by Citroën: Stylish, spacious, and family-friendly SUV in India

Citroën has been steadily building its SUV portfolio in India, and the new Aircross X arrives at an interesting crossroads. It isn’t just another compact SUV, and it doesn’t quite slot into the full-blown mid-size category either. Instead, it straddles the space between cars like the Hyundai Venue and the mid-tier trims of the Creta — the very same gap where Maruti’s new Victoris also tries to make a mark. For buyers, this positioning could prove to be Citroën’s biggest strength.

Visually, the Aircross X presents the bold stance expected of an SUV, without going overboard on quirky details. The signature Citroën DRLs and a confident new Deep Forest Green shade help it stand out, while dual-tone options add variety. The design steers clear of being polarising, which is important in this part of the market. The Aircross X looks solid and approachable, which is exactly what it needs to do.

Inside, the Aircross X impresses with a spacious cabin, premium finishes, and flexible five- or seven-seat layouts.

Where Citroën usually wins hearts is inside the cabin, and this SUV is no exception. A large 10.25-inch touchscreen, soft-touch finishes with tasteful gold accents, and ventilated seats give it a premium feel that surpasses expectations at its price point. The second and third rows get roof-mounted AC vents, and the option of five- or seven-seat layouts makes it adaptable for different family sizes. With up to 511 litres of luggage space, it’s also holiday-friendly. In short, it delivers practicality without short-changing comfort.

The tech suite is led by CARA, Citroën’s multilingual digital assistant that first debuted on the Basalt X. While not a novelty anymore, it does bring a layer of sophistication, offering voice-enabled controls in over 50 languages along with handy safety functions like crash alerts and SOS. The HALO 360° camera with satellite view is another standout — not common at this price and extremely useful in Indian cities.

Citroën’s Advanced Comfort Suspension ensures smooth handling, even on rough Indian roads, paired with a family-focused safety package.

The real trump card, however, is ride comfort. Citroën’s Advanced Comfort Suspension has been a differentiator across its line-up, and in the Aircross X, it makes daily driving genuinely more relaxed. It smothers rough roads better than most rivals, and the balance between softness and control is particularly well-judged. Combine that with a comprehensive safety package — six airbags, ESP, hill-hold, ABS with EBD, and a five-star BNCAP rating for the 5-seater variant — and it feels like a product clearly designed with families in mind.

The engine options — naturally aspirated and turbo-petrol units, plus a CNG kit offered through dealers — aren’t about outright thrills, but they do cover the bases for city and highway users. Transmission choices include both manual and automatic, widening its appeal further.

CARA, Citroën’s multilingual digital assistant, and the HALO 360° camera make city driving easier and safer.

The biggest challenge of course, remains Citroën’s limited dealer and service network in India. For many buyers, that factor alone could steer them back towards the safety net of Hyundai or Maruti Suzuki. Yet, this is exactly why the Aircross X is worth a closer look. When judged purely on the product, it offers more space than a Venue, better ride comfort than a Creta, and sharper pricing than both. It may not yet be the mainstream choice, but for those willing to venture off the beaten path, the Aircross X represents the best value-for-money proposition in its bracket.

Prices for the Citroën Aircross X start at ₹8.29 lakh.
