A man who collapsed at the finish line of a half marathon has died, the event’s organisers have said.
Kory Russell was taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon in central London on Sunday when he became unwell in Hyde Park.
Organisers said Mr Russell received specialist medical treatment at the scene before being transferred to hospital by ambulance. The cause of death is currently unknown.
A statement posted on the race’s website expressed “deep sadness” at the news.
Organisers said: “Everyone involved in the organisation of the Royal Parks Half Marathon would like to express sincere condolences to Kory’s family and friends.
“The family has requested privacy, and no further details will be released in accordance with their wishes.”
The cause of Mr Russell’s death will be established later in a post-mortem examination, organisers confirmed.
Mr Russell’s employers, an investment company in the capital, said: “Kory Russell was a highly valued and respected member of the State Street team.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends as they grieve their loss.”
