Storm Claudia cancels Hockney-inspired drone display in Bradford

The second night of a drone display inspired by the work of Bradford artist David Hockney has been cancelled due to Storm Claudia.

More than 600 illuminated drones were set to recreate some of the painter’s most famous works in an aerial display in Saltaire.

However, a Bradford City of Culture spokesperson said: “Due to the heavy rain and high wind speed, tonight’s performance (Friday 14 November) of Painting the Sky has regrettably been cancelled.”

They apologised for any inconvenience caused, adding a video of a full performance which took place on Thursday would be available on Friday evening.

Storm Claudia – named by the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) – has already brought heavy rain and strong winds to Spain and Portugal.

But rain associated with this storm has spread across England and Wales where it has stalled and continues for most of the day on Friday.

A large Met Office yellow severe weather warning is in force across most of England and Wales and will be valid until Saturday at 06:00 GMT.

Around 30-50mm (1.2-2.9in) of rain is expected quite widely which may bring some localised flooding and transport disruption.
