Nottinghamshire PolicePolice have issued an appeal for information after machete-wielding youths riding on e-bikes in Nottingham city centre confronted another group of young people “in view of families with children”.
Nottinghamshire Police said it was reported four youths on two e-bikes confronted a group of other youths, who were on foot, with two of the e-bike riders being in possession of machetes at about 18:15 GMT on Sunday.
The force has warned it will use “every power” to find the suspects after the incident, which took place by the Council House – near the site of the city’s annual Winter Wonderland event.
Officers have released images of a number of people they want to identify as part of their inquiries.
Police said it attended the scene after a member of public called 999, and searched several people, but the suspects had left the area.
The force previously said officers would be patrolling the city centre and Old Market Square throughout the festival period, saying there would be “additional high visibility patrols” at the Winter Wonderland site.
Nottinghamshire PoliceCh Supt Nick Waldram said: “This type of despicable behaviour has absolutely no place in our city and rest assured, we will leave no stone unturned until they are in our custody.
“We will use every power at our disposal to find them and throw the full force of the law at them. This incident happened in view of families with children.
“No-one should have to go into the city and experience this shameful and dangerous behaviour.
“We have a team working on identifying those involved.”
The force is urging anyone with information about the altercation or those who can help to identify youths caught on CCTV, to come forward.
