‘Mind-boggling’ e-bike parking pen to be moved from Nottingham road

An e-bike parking bay installed in a car parking area in Nottingham will be moved, the city council has confirmed.

The metal “corral” appeared on Wednesday at the bottom of Greenwood Road, near its junction with Sneinton Dale.

Residents raised the issue online, saying that as well as blocking a parking bay, the pen would force users into the road.

Nottingham City Council said it was happy to relocate the fence and was working with local councillors on options.

A basic painted parking area already exists on the corner of the two roads.

On a neighbourhood Facebook page, the decision to place the new enclosure on the road was described as “mind-boggling”.

Local city councillor David Mellen said: “There have been issues with e-bikes and e-scooters being left scattered on pavements.

“We asked for a more substantial bike corral to tidy this up and we were pleased that this bid was accepted.

“Clearly there are problems with the current siting and we are looking to change that.”

A spokesperson for the city council said: “The e-bike and e-scooter parking location on Greenwood Road will be relocated as soon as possible following feedback.

“This autumn, in response to the demand for e-bike (Lime) and e-scooter (Dott) hire across Nottingham city – in particular the east of the city – we have been increasing the number of parking spaces to help more people choose active and sustainable local journeys and to keep streets clutter-free.

“We’re happy to relocate this parking spot elsewhere and we will work with local councillors to identify a suitable location.”
