Two people have been seriously injured in an assault which saw an “unknown substance” thrown into a man’s face, police say.
Ambulances, police, two fire engines and two helicopters arrived at Parker Terrace in Ferryhill, County Durham, at 10:45 GMT.
A 49-year-old man’s eyes were injured when the substance was thrown at him, while another man, 44, was stabbed, according to Durham Police.
The force said the assault was an “isolated attack” between individuals who knew each other and there was no wider threat to the public.
Following the attack, Parker Terrace was cordoned off and the men were treated by emergency services before being taken away by an ambulance.
A Great North Air Ambulance Service spokesperson said it sent two helicopters to assist the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS).
“Both teams worked alongside NEAS to assess and treat two patients,” the spokesperson said.
“The patients were taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team.”
A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said it sent two fire engines from Spennymoor and Newton Aycliffe, which left the scene at 12:00 GMT.
