A Bangladesh air force training aircraft crashed into a school in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday, leaving at least 20 people killed and over 150 others injured.The jet was identified as an F-7 BGI, which went down on the premises of Milestone School and College while students were present on campus. The aircraft took off for a routine training mission but crashed around 1:06 pm.The crash sent shockwaves through the area, as emergency services rushed to the scene.Fire and rescuers from the military arrived at the scene.

Bangladesh army’s public relations office confirmed in a brief statement that the aircraft belonged to the air force. The statement did not elaborate on the cause of the crash or whether the pilot had ejected.Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic air crash in Dhaka, which claimed several lives, including those of young students. Sharing his condolences on X, he wrote: “Deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of lives, many of them young students, in a tragic air crash in Dhaka. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families. We pray for the swift recovery of those injured. India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”A spokesperson from Milestone School and College confirmed that the aircraft crashed near the school gate while classes were underway. “The plane fell on the gate and crashed nearby. A class was in session where the plane crashed. The injured are being taken out one by one,” the school official was quoted as saying to BDnews24. Footage showed smoke rising from the school building as rescue teams worked to secure the area and transport the injured.Authorities have launched an investigation to determine what led to the crash of the Chinese-made F-7 BGI, a type commonly used by the Bangladesh air force for training missions.
