Coldplay kiss-cam to target Hull couples at Craven Park

Coldplay are performing at Hull’s Craven Park stadium on 18 and 19 August

Those attending Hull’s Coldplay concerts should pucker up at their own risk as the band’s kiss-cam returns.

It comes after a viral moment at one of the band’s recent concerts exposed two employees from US tech firm Astronomer in an embrace before ducking off out of frame.

In a post on X, Hull KR chairman Dr Paul Sewell confirmed the kiss-cam would be on the lookout for cosy couples when Coldplay takes the stage at the club’s Craven Park in August.

Concertgoers should consider the message as an official heads-up. Smile for the camera, unless you’ve got something to hide!

The viral kiss-cam moment came at a concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts, when it directed itself to a cosy-looking couple with their arms wrapped around each other.

Unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight, the pair ducked out of frame, leaving lead singer Chris Martin to quip: “Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.”

The couple captured on camera are rumoured to be Astronomer’s CEO Andy Byron and its chief people officer Kristin Cabot. The pair no longer work for the company.

The takeaway? If your concert plus-one is more than just a plus-one, you might want to avoid the kiss-cam – especially if you’d like to keep your job.

He is wearing a black bucket hat and clear-framed glasses. He is holding a black microphone to his mouth and is holding his right arm straight in the air. Red and orange lights can be seen in the background as well as a set of lights reading 'BBC INTRODUCING' in capital letters.

One Hull local who will be embracing the spotlight is rapper Cheidu Oraka, who will be opening for the group on 18 and 19 August.

Oraka received a FaceTime call from Chris Martin, and said the moment he was asked to support the band was “surreal”.

While he briefly lived in London and studied at university in Lincoln, Oraka has spent the majority of his life in Hull.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: “It’s a massive platform for me and I’m going to bring that Hull energy – I think that’s why Chris wants me there.

“I want to make the city proud.”
