She has blonde, long hair tied in a ponytail and is smiling into the camera. They are standing in a field which has a few small trees. Lauren Pickthall said Brody loves to sniff and patrol

An animal rescue charity is looking for a home for a 66kg (145.5lbs) dog that can make his way through more than 1kg of food per day.

Brody, a six-year-old white Pyrenean mountain dog, stands around six feet tall (1.82m) on his hind legs and will soon be put up for adoption by Animal Concern Cumbria, based in Egremont, who described him as a “loveable giant”.

Lauren Pickthall, animal rehoming manager, said Brody eats “a lot of food” and, aside from the upkeep of his double coat, the cost of keeping his belly full is the main challenge.

Applications for Brody are expected to open within the next week in the hope of finding him his forever home in the New Year.

Pyrenean mountain dogs were bred to be livestock guardians, used to protect flocks from wolves and bears.

“He needs someone who knows the breed and has livestock guardian experience because they are very different than most dogs,” Ms Pickthall said.

“They have kind of behavioural characteristics that come along with being a working breed.”

Brody has a “goofy side” to his personality

“He’s a lovable giant, he’s very sweet, very gentle,” Ms Pickthall said.

“He’s got a definite goofy side to his personality as well.”

She said whoever adopts Brody will need a “very large sofa because he likes his comfort and he’s not willing to share”.

The animal charity said Brody has already attracted a lot of attention.

“I don’t think we’ll have any issue finding him a lovely, wonderful home,” Ms Pickthall said.

But on whether she will miss Brody when he eventually leaves them, she said: “I never get sad.

“It’s always exactly what we work for from the moment they come in, so it’s always joyous when dogs leave us.

“It’s always nice to say goodbye to them.”
