Denise Richards’ surprise visit to pub to try Liverpool dish

Hollywood actress Denise Richards has described her excitement at sampling a “delish” traditional dish from Liverpool in one of the city’s restaurants.

The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star made the surprise visit to Ma Boyle’s on Tower Gardens with her husband Aaron Phypers on Monday.

She posted a video on Instagram as she was about to tuck in to the eatery’s Scouse pie dish, adding it was “so delish” and admitted she loved mushy peas.

Ma Boyle’s deputy manager Amy Kelly said it was surreal to have the star “savouring our Scouse”, adding the pair were “great customers”.

The American actress, who recently starred in self-titled reality TV series Denise Richards & Her Wild Things, was in the city for this weekend’s Comic Con Liverpool.

She had her mainstream breakthrough alongside Pierce Brosnan in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough in 1999 and had two stints on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Ms Kelly said the couple were “so lovely and friendly and great customers”.

She said: “They absolutely loved eating Scouse and learning about our traditional dishes”.

Richards went home with a Scouse pie – described as a traditional beef Scouse stew topped with a puff pastry lid -as a takeaway, too, the deputy manager added.

“We feel proud to have welcomed them to Ma Boyle’s and given them a proper Liverpool experience,” she said.
