HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old man died after collapsing while playing badminton at an indoor court in Uppal Bhagayath, Hyderabad, on Sunday evening. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, went viral on Monday. The footage showed the man, identified as Rakesh, actively participating in a doubles match before suddenly falling to the floor. Rakesh, a resident of RTC X Roads and an employee at a private company, had reportedly come to Uppal to play badminton as he knew someone in the area. In the video, he is seen moving comfortably around the court and serving the shuttlecock to his opponent. Moments later, after conceding a point, he bends to retrieve the shuttlecock and begins walking back to serve again—when he collapses. Other players rushed to his side and found him unconscious. With no response from him, he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The incident occurred at around 7:30pm. Hospital authorities later informed the Uppal police, who visited the spot and reviewed the CCTV footage. “Heart attack is the cause of his death,’’ Uppal sub-inspector A Madhava Reddy told TOI.
