LUCKNOW: An elderly woman died after she was allegedly abandoned by her family late at night near the roadside in Kishundaspur locality, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Ayodhya police station in Ramnagari.The woman, left to suffer in the cold and dark, was spotted lying unattended early Thursday morning.She was admitted to Ayodhya Medical College by police personnel, but succumbed to her condition during treatment later in the evening.The entire act of abandonment was , which shows an e-rickshaw arriving at the spot and three individuals—two women and a man—leaving the frail woman by the roadside before vanishing into the darkness.Police are now scanning the footage to identify the vehicle and the people involved.SP City Chakrapani Tripathi said that a Dial 112 emergency call was received around 9:30am on Thursday, reporting an unconscious elderly woman lying along the roadside.A police team responded swiftly and shifted her to the medical college.Despite treatment, she could not be saved and was declared dead in the evening.Police are now investigating multiple unanswered questions.A senior police officer said that what circumstances led to the woman being abandoned? Why was she left alone in the dead of night? Who are her family members, and why did they take such a step? Authorities are working to identify both the deceased and those who left her. “We have obtained CCTV footage showing a man and two women abandoning her. Efforts are underway to trace them and determine the identity of the deceased. Strict action will be taken against the culprits once identification is confirmed and postmortem is completed,” SP Tripathi said.The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with citizens and social organizations demanding strict punishment for the inhumane act.
