The M3 is closed northbound in Surrey after a lorry caught fire.
National Highways said the northbound carriageway is closed between junction four, for Farnborough, and junction three, for Woking.
The burning trailer contained mixed electrical waste including lithium batteries, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said, which was “increasing the complexity of the situation”.
A spokesperson for the fire service said the blaze was “generating large volumes of smoke” and was “likely to be a protracted incident with significant impact on the motorway”.
