A man has been ordered to pay almost £1,000 over numerous fridges and other rubbish dumped in the front garden of a terraced house he owns.
Kenneth Goudie, 59, of Ings Lane, Waltham, was sent warning letters and then ordered to remove the waste from the empty property in Buller Street, Grimsby – but failed to do so.
He was found guilty in his absence at Grimsby Magistrates Court of failing to comply with an order under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
Councillor Ron Shepherd, the portfolio holder for communities at North East Lincolnshire Council, said fly-tipping would “not be tolerated”.
“This case is the perfect example of how we are a zero-tolerance council,” he added.
“Whether you have dumped the waste or own the land it has been left on, you still have a responsibility.”
The council said the waste was reported in September 2024. Several attempts were made to contact Goudie, but he did not respond.
He was then given a Section 215 Notice, which orders property owners to remove waste from their land if it is deemed to be causing a nuisance, before being taken to court.
At a hearing on 21 July, Goudie was ordered to pay a total of £956, including a fine of £440, victim surcharge of £176 and legal costs of £340.
