MG Cyberster brings eElectric drama to the road

The MG Cyberster is more than just a car — it’s a statement. Not just from MG as a brand, but from the world of electric mobility at large. In a market where most EVs lean towards practicality and discretion, the Cyberster is a roadster that embraces flair, performance, and sheer presence. With its scissor doors, convertible roof, and futuristic cabin, it’s unlike anything else on Indian roads right now—and perhaps that’s precisely the point.

The Cyberster’s dual-motor AWD layout delivers 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque, launching it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

At first glance, it’s hard not to be drawn in by the drama of the design. Long, sculpted lines evoke the spirit of classic roadsters, while the modern surfacing and distinctive lighting bring it firmly into the future. The electrically operated roof folds away in just 10 seconds i—even on the move, up to 50 km/h—offering an instant connection to the world outside. And then there are those electric scissor doors: a first in the segment, and a guaranteed conversation starter wherever you park.

But once the theatrics settle, what emerges is a seriously capable electric performance machine. The Cyberster’s dual-motor AWD layout delivers 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque, launching it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. For the Indian market, top speed is restricted to around 210 km/h—still more than enough to keep your pulse racing. Engage Super Sport mode and activate Launch Control, and the acceleration pins you back in your seat with shocking immediacy. It’s the kind of visceral surge typically reserved for high-end performance cars, and while the Cyberster isn’t aiming to dethrone any supercar royalty, it’s certainly playing in exciting territory.

What adds to the illusion is a cleverly executed touch: MG has equipped the Cyberster with a synthesised engine note played through the car’s Bose sound system. The audio is , precisely tuned and synced with throttle input, mimicking the rising tone of a large combustion engine. It’s subtle, not gimmicky , and while it won’t fool your ears completely, it does manage to enhance the experience—especially with the roof down. It’s more than a gimmick; it adds emotional depth to the otherwise silent acceleration of an EV.

Handling is one of the Cyberster’s standout traits. Despite weighing in at nearly two tonnes, the car feels agile thanks to its 50:50 weight distribution, rear-biased AWD system, and chassis tuning by former Ferrari F1 engineer Marco Fainello. The steering offers decent feedback, and while it’s not razor-sharp, it’s predictable and precise—perfect for flowing through corners on a scenic hill road. The ride quality is another pleasant surprise. For a low-slung electric sports car, it’s remarkably compliant—firm enough to stay flat during quick transitions, yet never harsh or jarring. Brembo brakes with four-piston callipers at all four corners, along with 20-inch staggered Pirelli P Zeros, ensure confident stopping power and grip.

Inside, the Cyberster embraces its futuristic ambitions. The cabin is anchored by a digital cockpit that combines three wraparound displays—a 10.25-inch central cluster flanked by twin 7-inch touchscreens. A fourth 7-inch console screen sits below, controlling HVAC, drive modes, roof operation, and more. These high-resolution screens aren’t just flashy additions —they create a clean, purposeful driving environment that feels like it belongs in the next decade. These are the touches that truly put the Cyber in Cyberster.

Material quality in the Cyberster is thoroughly premium. The seats are upholstered in sustainably sourced Dynamica suede and leather, both heated and power-adjustable. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is leather-wrapped and heated as well. A premium 8-speaker, 320-watt Bose audio system with AudioPilot technology keeps the tunes crisp, while the ambient lighting system lets you set the mood with 256 colour options. It’s a tight cabin, but it doesn’t feel cramped. And with the roof down, there’s a sense of freedom that no screen can replicate.

On the tech and safety front, the Cyberster arrives well-stocked. It features Level 2 ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and even a driver drowsiness detection system. Four airbags, a robust structure tested in over 50 scenarios, and electronic aids like a real-time stability monitor all contribute to a very reassuring package.

The Cyberster integrates MG’s comprehensive i-Smart suite, offering more than 40 connected features designed to enhance convenience and control. From remote lock/unlock and climate control to live tracking and geofencing, it’s all available through the mobile app or via voice commands inside the car. Charging is quick and easy too: the 77 kWh battery supports 144 kW DC fast charging, going from 10% to 80% in just 40 minutes. MG claims a MIDC-certified range of 580 km, which should translate to around 400–500 km in real-world conditions depending on usage and how often you use the Super Sport mode!

But numbers tell only half the story. What truly defines the Cyberster is how it makes you feel. It’s about the joy of driving, the thrill of open-top motoring, and the excitement of being seen in something that’s unlike anything else on sale today.

At ₹75 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG Cyberster is priced to undercut anything remotely similar in performance and presence. There are no direct rivals in the Indian market—certainly not with this combination of design, power, and technology. You could spend more and get less theatre. Or you could choose the Cyberster and embrace the future with your roof down and your heart racing.
