An MP said he shared local residents’ “anger” at being “kept in the dark” about the arrest of a “clearly dangerous” convicted paedophile who was being housed at an asylum seekers’ hotel within his constituency.
The BBC understands the 32-year-old man – wanted in Germany on suspicion of a child sex offence – was detained on a European Arrest Warrant at the Britannia Ashley Hotel in Hale, Greater Manchester.
Details of his arrest on 17 October were not made public by the National Crime Agency (NCA) since it was supporting a German investigation.
Labour MP for Altrincham and Sale West Connor Rand said the suspect “should never have been allowed in this country”.
In a statement, Rand said: “While I am grateful to the NCA for their work to apprehend a clearly dangerous individual, I share the anger of residents that we were kept in the dark about such a serious incident.”
He added: “I understand they now face extradition, and I will be writing to the Home Office to request they are deported as soon as possible.”
The MP said he was “deeply concerned” that the wanted paedophile was housed in his constituency.
Greater Manchester Police were not involved in the arrest at the hotel, which has been used to house asylum seekers for several years.
