VASAI: Three men, including a father and son, have been arrested for assaulting two traffic police officers in Nalasopara East, near Mumbai. The incident took place near Sitara Bakery in Vijay Nagar on Tuesday afternoon, when the two officers—Hanumant Sangle and Sheshnarayan Athre—were on duty checking vehicles for traffic violations.

According to police, the officers stopped Parth Narkar and his friend Omkar Panchal for multiple violations. “They were stopped as they were not wearing helmet and also there was problem with their number plate and they didn’t even have a permanent licence on them,” said Tulinj senior police inspector Vijay Jadhav. An argument broke out and Parth reportedly called his father, Mangesh Narkar, who arrived at the spot shortly after. Police say the argument escalated and all three began assaulting the officers. A video of the attack circulated widely on social media, showing Parth kicking one of the policemen while he was on the ground. Additional police personnel were called to the scene and all three accused were taken into custody. The injured officers were sent for medical examination and later discharged with minor injuries. “We have arrested Parth Narkar, his father Mangesh Narkar and friend of Parth, Omkar Panchal under charges of obstruction of services, assaulting a police men on duty and also causing damage to government apparatus,” said Jadhav. The body camera used by one of the officers was reportedly damaged during the scuffle. Police confirmed that Mangesh Narkar works as a clean-up marshal with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The trio was produced before a Vasai court and sent to police remand.
