CHANDIGARH: Lieutenant Vinay Narwal (26), an Indian Navy officer from Karnal in Haryana, was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on Tuesday.
Narwal, who was posted in Kochi, had got married on April 16 and was on leave. There is no confirmation about the condition of his wife, Himanshi Narwal, with whom he was on vacation in Kashmir till the filing of this report.
A native of Bhusli village in Haryana’s Karnal district, Narwal was the only son of his parents who had moved from their village to Sector 7 of Karnal city. His father, Rajesh Narwal, is posted as a superintendent with the GST department in Panipat.
The family had last spent time with the couple at a grand celebration of their wedding in Karnal on April 19. Narwal and his wife left for Pahalgam and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir for their post-wedding vacation after the Karnal celebration.
As per initial reports, Narwal was shot in chest, neck and left arm and was brought dead to the hospital. Apart from his parents, Narwal is survived by a younger sister.
The defence spokesperson confirmed that the Indian Navy officer was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack while on leave. Karnal district administration officials also confirmed the officer’s death.
