With Easter on the weekend, the travel scenes for both fliers and airlines was a hectic route to navigate. This is where loads of last-minute negotiations take place, some for or against the favour of others. Recently, a person took to Reddit to share how a popular airline offered him $3,000 to change his flight.
Passenger received $3000 from airlines?
Yes, taking to the social media website, the user wrote, “I was booked on a Delta flight from Chicago O’Hare to Seattle, 7:50 AM departure. Monday after Easter—aka a max-capacity travel kinda day.”
“I boarded with Zone 2, grabbed my seat in Row 10, and settled in. Then a gate agent walks up to the front of first-class — no mic, no big announcement — and casually drops what sounded like a travel myth: ‘We’re looking for two volunteers to deplane due to fuel rebalancing issues. Compensation is $3,000’” they continued.
This might sound like a too good to be true situation but Delta Airlines was serious. Apparently, they handed the passenger two vouchers, one a $2000 credit and another $1000 credit.
“I barely even processed it before my hand was in the air. No hesitation. I wasn’t letting anyone else beat me to it. Another passenger raised theirs right after,” the passenger added.
The credit received by the passenger is not limited to Delta flight credit but could be converted to actual gift cards to major retailers such as Amazon, Airbnb and more. Thus, the person not only got to spend some more time with their family but also became $3000 richer before going home. What better blessing for Easter would one want in the current economy?

Interestingly, the passenger was not the only person who became richer by flying with Delta Airlines. Earlier that same day, the airlines offered $1,700 to 22 passengers to get off a flight due to an equipment change. Thus, in a day the airlines shelled out almost $43,400 due to issues with their planes.
“I always thought once you board, you’re locked in and done. But apparently, if Delta hits an operational issue (like fuel balancing) and still needs volunteers? That window reopens— and if you’re quick, you can win big,” completed the user on Reddit.
