A police force has released audio from a hoax 999 call about a “gorilla” in a town centre in Leicestershire to remind people to only use the service in an emergency.
In the video, the caller can be heard saying that there is a “gorilla raping a monkey” in Coalville’s shopping precinct, and he even asked for armed police to attend.
After a series of unanswered questions, the Leicestershire Police call handler soon realised it was a prank call and said: “It’s not funny at all.
“You’re ringing 999, so this is taking up a slot of somebody that actually needs help.”
In a post on Facebook, the force said: “Let’s use this as a reminder to only call our 999 emergency line when it’s absolutely necessary.
“Every second counts in an emergency.”
