A police officer has died a week after he was hit by a car while responding to a crash.
Northamptonshire Police said PC Faizaan Najeeb attended a single-vehicle collision in Station Road, Raunds, at about 12:35 BST on 19 September.
The force said the 24-year-old was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge after being hit by a blue VW polo and died on Friday. Police said he was not in a vehicle at the time of the incident.
A man in his 20s who was arrested at the scene of the collision was bailed pending further investigation.
The officer joined the force in May 2022 and had served with the response team in Wellingborough.
The force said his collar number P1967 would be retired in his memory.
Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet said: “Words cannot describe the sadness felt when an officer loses his life serving in the line of duty.
“The entire Northamptonshire Police family wish to pass on our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this truly awful point in time.”
Police said a two-minute silence would be held in his memory at Wootton Hall headquarters next week, and a flag was being flown at half-mast.
Mr Balhatchet added: “Colleagues from the serious collision investigation unit are still investigating the collision, and specialist family liaison officers will continue to support Faizaan’s family in the coming days and weeks.
“We are also carrying out an internal health and safety investigation.”
