Autographs of all four The Beatles acquired by a teenage fan in 1963 are set to be auctioned.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr singed a photo of the band for Phil Barrows, who also managed to fit in a quick jam with the band, when they performed at Coventry Theatre.

His brother, 74-year-old Chris Barrows, is putting the item up for auction with Richard Winterton Auctioneers on 29 September at The Lichfield Auction Centre in Staffordshire.

Mr Barrows said his late brother was at the venue 62 years ago to accompany their father while he tuned the piano ahead of a Beatles performance.

Mr Barrows said his dad, Ron, was Steinway’s chief piano tuner for the Midlands area.

He added: “My dad came home one day and said he was going to tune the piano ahead of The Beatles’ show and other performances.

“I didn’t go as at that time I was more interested in football. But my brother had been playing guitar for six months and went along.”

The Atherstone resident said The Beatles were already there when they arrived – giving his brother a chance to visit the band in their dressing room while his dad worked.

Speaking of his brother, who died last September at the age of 75, he said: ” “He played guitar with John Lennon and Paul McCartney and even had a go on Paul’s left-handed bass”.

The photo signed by the group, had the personal message “To Philip – best wishes from the Beatles” written in blue ink at the top of the picture.

John Lennon’s signature is in the top left-hand corner of the photograph, with Ringo Starr’s autograph cloaked by the group’s dark suits yet still visible due to the impression of the pen.

George Harrison’s and Paul McCartney’s signatures are on the reverse side of the photograph.

Estimated at £1,500 to £2,000, viewing in person takes place on Friday 26 September between 10:00 and 16:00 BST.
