A Merseyside pub has been serving up pints of beer for just 7p as part of its 80th anniversary of VE Day celebrations.
Mitch Cottle, manager of the Lamb Inn in St Helens, said the price of a typical pint in 1945 was seven old pennies.
Because Mr Cottle said he did not know what this would equate to in the world after pounds, shillings and pence, he decided to stick with 7p rather than 3p.
“I saw other pubs coming up with ideas for VE Day and thought the best thing would be to bring back 1945 prices,” he said.
Mr Cottle: “I’m 28 and I don’t know what 7d is… but I thought 7p for a pint, you can’t argue with that!”
Perhaps unsurprisingly given that the British Beer and Pub Association says the average pint now costs about £5, it was a very busy start to the day at the Lamb Inn.
The 7p pints of cask ale went on sale at 12:00 BST and were all gone 40 minutes later.
Mr Cottle said relatives, including his great-grandfather, had served in the armed forces during World War Two.
The flag-bedecked pub has also laid on 1940s style snacks including sandwiches and sherbet lemon sweets, as well as playing 1940s music.
