RAIPUR: “Today is my jaan’s birthday”, and I have come to Central Jail to meet him. I am sad that I am not with him on his birthday, but let me see his reaction as I am here to meet him,” said a girl in a social media video that has gone viral, with a location pinned as Raipur Central Jail. The video, allegedly showing a girl who appears to be a minor visiting her boyfriend inside Raipur Central Jail, has raised serious concerns over security checks and visitor screening inside the prison. The clip, purportedly recorded in the jail’s mulakat (meeting) room, shows the inmate posing with the visitor while a video is being shot during their meeting on her mobile phone. The girl later uploaded the clip on social media, saying she had come to meet her partner on his birthday and expressing sadness at not being able to celebrate with him outside prison. The video is edited with the song “Tu Na Ja Mere Badshah” from the film Khuda Gawah. Mobile phones are strictly prohibited inside prison meeting areas, prompting questions about how the visitor managed to carry a phone into the facility. The incident has triggered concerns over possible lapses in frisking procedures or surveillance systems at entry points. Jail authorities have not clarified when the video was recorded, and an official said they will investigate the matter. Sources identified the inmate as Tarkeshwar, who is lodged in jail under the NDPS Act. This is not the first time videos allegedly shot inside the prison have surfaced online. Earlier, clips showing inmates exercising within jail premises had also raised questions about monitoring and enforcement inside the facility.
