MEERUT: Seven days after 25-year-old Sunny Kumar was allegedly set on fire by his wife’s lover at his in-law’s house in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat, he succumbed to burn injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Sunday night.Kumar had left his home for Haridwar to bring Ganga water during the kanwar yatra when his wife, Ankita, and her lover, Dr Ayyub Ahmed, allegedly intercepted him.
Ankita took Sunny Kumar to her parental home and allegedly poured petrol on him and set him on fire.A few locals rescued Kumar and took him to a hospital. As he suffered severe burns, he was referred to the Delhi hospital.The deceased’s Sunny Kumar’s father, Vedpal Kumar, confirmed that his son died late on Sunday night.On July 21, Vedpal had filed a police complaint following which an FIR was filed against five people. However, no arrest has been madein the case so far.On Monday, agitated family members kept Kumar’s body outside Doghat police station and staged a protest, demanding arrest of the accused. Baraut CO Vijay Kumar assured the family that strict action would be taken against the accused, and convinced them to perform the last rites.
